Shapewear Covering The Bottom To The Midriff
Shapewear covering the bottom to the midriff is relatively new. I’m sure that it was developed by the big brands due to the number of celebrities caught flashing their mid thigh shapewear to the world. I for one am really thankful for it as it solved the dilemma I had of shapewear versus over the knee dresses. This shapewear tends to come in the form of high waisted briefs, pants, knickers or THONGS (yes really!), but there are a few styles of slimming bodysuits too.
There are several things to think about when choosing this style of shapewear:
- VPL (aka visible panty line). If you have quite a wobbly bottom then you will probably find that most things with edging will create a bit of VPL. There are lots of seemingly fantastic high waisted briefs out there that shape your bum, slim your tummy and waist etc etc. However, the edging just seems to dig in on me with all but a few brands and really ruins the look. I obviously have a bottom the consistency of play doh. In case you are wondering the one that works best for me is the Spanx Higher Power Briefs.
- Like most high waisted shapewear, this style is supposed to stay in place without straps. If you are prone to roll down then it might be worth finding a version with straps.
- The gusset on these is usually a non-opening one. This can cause a few problems with going to the loo. Picture the scene, you are all trussed up in a gorgeous skirt and top with your high waisted briefs on underneath. You need the loo, you pull them down, you go to the loo. Fine. Now what do you do? It is a case of a weird shapewear shuffle to get them up past your waistband and sitting flat in the right place around your rib cage. And in my case, after a few glasses of wine I end up coming out of the bathroom looking peculiarly ruffled!
